Chapter 6 LOVE IS A WORD
I love you. . . .so carelessly spoken by the mouths of men and women, and even children, are but three little words that can be true, or they can be false.
The Apostle John said, 1st John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And John said, 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of GOD; and every one that loveth is born of GOD, and knoweth GOD. 19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. And John spoke further . . . .5:1 Whosoever believeth that JESUS is the CHRIST is born of GOD: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of GOD, when we love GOD, and keep his commandments.
And the Apostle John said . . . . .1st John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of GOD, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of GOD in him?
We are born with passions, and lusts, and hungers, and wants, and desires, and these things cause us to love, to fall in love, and to love things, and to love purposes, and to love to be loved in return, to give to be given to, and to require love when we give it not, simply because born in all flesh is this emptiness, this loneliness, this space that is void because of being born separated from GOD. All flesh is born separated from GOD, because all flesh is born under the bondage of sin and death. So from the cradle do babies cry, and are babies afraid and easily frightened, and do babies cling to their mothers, and do babies seek a safety from all the terrors of this world. And little children grow up, and never lose that emptiness, but love this, and love that, and want this, and want that, and as we grow up, we are always living in that fantasy of the perfect romance, and perfect love, and never considering for one moment, that there is no perfectness in an imperfect world. Disappointment after disappointment, from birth to death, sorrow on sorrow, and pain on pain, all because we are empty at birth, and seek to fill ourselves with all things and every thing that might ease that emptiness, and that loneliness, and that void that is within us. It never enters our minds or imaginations that we are void of the spirit of righteousness, and it is that void of righteousness that causes us to be so tormented and alone and afraid and insecure.
So the first man that says I love you to a woman, has the door opened up to do all kinds of mischief, and if his intentions are not pure, neither is his I love you! And that does not exclude all the women that say I love you with lying lips, to gain whatever they desire to gain from a man. For all flesh is born in sin, and born in bondage to sin. And all flesh seeks to manufacture a god for themselves, a comfort, a strength, a higher being, because of this void that is born in all flesh, this hungering, this thirsting, whether a known knowledge of those feelings are understood or not. They are born in every heart.
Children never have to be taught the way of disobedience, for from birth are they always selfish, demanding, jealous, envious, brawlers, thieves, liars, sneaks, lazy, covetous and tantrous. Children must not only have their disobediences corrected, but also must be taught the way of obedience.
GOD’s love is unchangeable. The scriptures say that GOD hates the wicked all day long. Now, it is true, that JESUS CHRIST came into the world to save sinners. That is all that is in the world, so of course CHRIST JESUS came into the world to save sinners. All flesh is born in sin, and will follow after the flesh and after sin, because there is no power to do otherwise. The power to overcome all sin is found in JESUS CHRIST. But if a soul loves sin and evil, he will not hunger and thirst for righteousness, for he is filled with evil and loves his sins.
So we keep running around and around in circles, starting out in one place and running a circle till we come back around to the same place. And then we start another circle and run around till we get back to the same place, and still find that the understanding of love is an illusive thing to our minds and hearts. For we even know, that love explodes into our lives, and then dissipates, and leaves us empty again and again. And we think in finding love that that is the answer to all the pains and sufferings and sorrows of this world and this flesh. So we love many, and things, and purposes, and careers, and houses, and moms and dads, and children, and still, we are empty, and unsatisfied, and this grieving finds no peace in those things of this world and the loves of this world.
And we even condemn our own selves that we have to work so hard at love, and still we fail. For when we seek to do good, evil is ever present to keep us from doing the good we ought to do, and it is always an effort, and a work, and sometimes, a hard thing to do, to love. For we think love is a feeling that ought to make us fireballs of doing good, without making ourselves do good. We do not feel like loving, and we feel condemned because we do not feel love, or feel like loving, as though it is a feeling, a feeling that ought to propel us into righteousness all on its own.
The loves of the world are feelings. But the love of GOD is work, hard work, effort, energy, and severe and hard works, laboursome works, travailing works. And love never seems to endure on its own, but fades, and falls away, and we wonder why. And we condemn others as well as ourselves, because we demand that their love comfort all our ills, and make all things right, and when we find out that no earthly love can fill up this emptiness inside, can fill the hole of blackness, can take away the loneliness, we become disappointed over and over and over again. We become depressed. We become sorrowful. We become angry. We become separated more and more from believing or trusting anyone. So love for all the inhabitants of the world, is like a circle beginning over and over again and running around and back to its original place of starting, and nothing. It comes back to nothing and travels its circle again, and back again to nothing. What is the answer, therefore, to this thing called love?
Seeing as our understanding is hidden within the flesh, we need to understand the flesh. Let us look at one scripture here that is very, very important........speaking of the churches burden toward young widows. 1st Tim. 5:11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. . . . . . . .14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after satan.
The Apostle Paul is speaking here concerning the love of the lust of the loins. To grow wanton against CHRIST JESUS, is to turn to the flesh to fill that void, to turn to the lust of the flesh instead of to GOD. CHRIST JESUS is not flesh and blood that will fill a man’s life or a woman’s life with the cooling of the fire of the lust of the flesh. JESUS CHRIST is Spirit, not flesh. It is no sin to marry, and we are all commanded to avoid fornication, to marry, and sin not. We are not condemning marriage, but rather, uphold its purpose in this world toward righteousness.
First, Paul says, the flesh grows wanton against CHRIST, grows angry against CHRIST, becomes displeased with CHRIST, turns away from the love of CHRIST, and when that happens, the flesh will demand to be comforted and loved. To be angry at CHRIST because we are passionate beings, is foolishness, for to be angry at getting hungry, or getting tired, we will forsake CHRIST and turn to gluttony? or turn to the loving of sleep? or turn to drunkenness? or turn to fornication? All manners of sins and bondages return upon a believer if he loses His love of righteousness. CHRIST JESUS is a Spirit, and His Spirit does not remove fatigue, or hunger, or passion. These are works of the flesh that we ourselves must take the power of His Spirit and bring them under the subjection of righteousness.
As the Apostle Paul said, . . . . . .Rom. 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of GOD after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank GOD through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of GOD; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Rom. 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in CHRIST JESUS, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in CHRIST JESUS hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, GOD sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against GOD: for it is not subject to the law of GOD, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please GOD. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of GOD dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of CHRIST, he is none of his. 10 And if CHRIST be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up JESUS from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up CHRIST from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of GOD, they are the sons of GOD.
What is the answer therefore, to love? For we are born into a flesh that demands, and requires, and that torments us with passions and desires. Paul said, . . . . . .Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to GOD, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of GOD is eternal life through JESUS CHRIST our LORD.
Now, the gift of GOD is righteousness in CHRIST JESUS, and that righteousness grants us eternal life. It is the life of CHRIST that grants us life. And if CHRIST be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. The righteousness that becomes ours, witnesses to us that we are saved from our sins, and the sins in our flesh are dead, having been crucified in JESUS CHRIST, we having been made free from sin, born again from the corruptions that are in the Adamic nature into the righteousnesses that are in JESUS CHRIST. And this law of sin and death that we see working in our flesh, is held in a captivity by the Spirit of CHRIST that leads us into all righteousness.
We cannot serve both sin and righteousness. We cannot have two masters. We will love the one and hate the other, or hate the one and despise the other, becoming tormented on all sides. The love of righteousness is the only love that will grant us eternal life. And the more righteous we become day by day and year by year, living the life of CHRIST JESUS, the more we love Him, and the love ever grows till it encompasses the whole body, soul and spirit, and the heart and flesh themselves become His captivity, captured by His love that flowed down unto us upon Calvary. And when we are hungry, we are contented with but something to eat, without lust. And when we are thirsty, we are contented to drink, without lust. And when we are passionate, we are contented if we are abstaining or if we are married. Whatever state we are in, we are contented, resting in a peace that reaches far above our understanding. It simply is! The void is filled! The emptiness is gone! The loneliness is comforted! For the love from CHRIST and to CHRIST is all encompassing, and all sufficient, and is so full with fulness of joy.
So love is only a WORD, unless one comes to know the Spirit of LOVE, that is shed abroad into our hearts through JESUS CHRIST. For until I love GOD, I can love no flesh. Until I learn to love righteousness, I will not faithfully nor without fault, love another, for I cannot. For love is not selfish, and only the love of GOD, and the love of righteousness, can lay aside all of one’s own wants and desires, and simply give to others, and love others, and forgive others, and serve others, and still be contented.
Rom. 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with GOD through our LORD JESUS CHRIST: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of GOD. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of GOD is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
The one thing that a saint of GOD has, is love, for it is poured fully into our hearts by the Holy Ghost, and it is full of glory, the glory of GOD Himself, which is the glory of love. To know GOD and to know that love, reaches far beyond a WORD, for it becomes life, the abundant life, so full of strength, so full of power, so full of joy, so full of hope, so full of abundance, so full of peace, so full of contentment, so full of abilities, so full of knowledges, so full of wisdoms, so full of understanding, so full of experiences, so full of the simplicity of forgiveness, that heals all strife, angers, disappointments, and painful losses of life, and issues that are mountains, in GOD’s love, become as nothings.
For we are eternal, living in a temporal world, and that alone, seizes our soul and holds it captive in the love of GOD, giving us an ability to endure all things, and suffer all things, and overcome all things, and be overcome by nothing. The WORD love, becomes a reality in CHRIST JESUS. Everything else is but a WORD, and is temporal, and will perish with the world. Only the love wrought by GOD is eternal, and that love is righteousness. It is a forgiving love, and it can forgive the vilest of sins, and love still, and remain united still, and remain still, through adultery, and drunkenness, and all manners of sins and bondages, and forgive, and forgive, and forgive, till the one forgiven overcomes the bondages and enters into the Kingdom of righteousness, the Kingdom of GOD.
It is the forgiving grace of love, that causes a soul to turn from wickedness to righteousness, to turn from evil to good, to turn from hatred to love, to turn from anger to peace, to turn from rebellion to submission, and to turn from sin to holiness. The forgiving grace of GOD must dwell in human flesh so that men might know the love of GOD, that passes all understanding, and how many times will the one forgiven say to the one that forgives, How can you love me? How can you forgive me such things? Where does that ability come from, that you love me and forgive me my transgressions against you? Only the forgiven, can forgive. Those that are not forgiven their sins by an Almighty Creator, that sent His only begotten Son into the world to show forth His divinity and omnipotence and majesty, grace and truth and mercy, cannot forgive, seeing as they themselves are unforgiven their transgressions.
For JESUS said, Matt. 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. The fruit therefore, that abides in souls that are forgiven their sins, is that they forgive all men all trespasses whatsoever that are transgressed against them. And they pray also, for their heavenly FATHER to forgive, as JESUS prayed, Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, FATHER, forgive them; for they know not what they do. The way that our heavenly FATHER knows that we have forgiven our brothers and sisters their trespasses, and all men their trespasses, is that we pray for our FATHER to forgive them their trespasses also, and to heal them of their sins, knowing that if they do not repent nor be healed of their sins, they shall perish.
